he undisputed identity signature of the One & Two Openworked collection is the original dial, decorated with ever-changing finishes and details, which enhance the excellence and charm of the horological art. Each creation boasts an appealing three-dimensional display that endows it with a modern style. The sophisticated openworked structure, evoking the imaginary architecture of elevated intersections in a futuristic city, gives the multi-layered dial an even more dynamic look.
In addition, the unique geometry and arrangement of the bridges create fascinating and unique aesthetic effects. Each timepiece in the One & Two Openworked collection allows the wearer to dive into its powerful “engine” without taking it off the wrist.
All this beauty is encased in the classic round “Piccadilly” case, a reminder of the brand’s British origins. Revamped in 2017 by renowned designer Eric Giroud, it now features a smoother and more sinuous shape than the original.
All One & Two Openworked collections are available in 38- and 42-mm case sizes.
Every day, Speake Marin strives for excellence in the mechanical and aesthetic aspects of “time.” A precious time that it relentlessly interprets, innovates, and perfects to meet fans’ dreams.
On the occasion of the Geneva Watch Days 2025, the Geneva-based Maison is extending its One & Two Openworked Tourbillon collection, an icon that is highly appreciated by a discerning public with a deep watchmaking culture and a love of challenging conventions.
In comparison to the previous models, this latest edition boasts a more modern aesthetics, with a more alluring mien and a more dynamic character, owing to the vivid purple that assumes a dominant role on the dial. This shade creates a mysterious, regal and almost mystical atmosphere, evoking unique emotions by taking on different hues when the light hits it. It is comparable to the well-known phenomenon of the “purple hour,” when the sky is filled with beautiful shades of violet, blue, purple and ultraviolet as twilight approaches. This is a breathtaking moment steeped in mystery and poetry, when light transforms and invites contemplation. This mesmerising moment is made even more magical by the harmonious dance of the flying tourbillon cage positioned at 1:30.
The combination of cutting-edge technology and unconventional aesthetics, accentuated by the daring choice of purple — a vivid colour in constant metamorphosis due to the captivating interplay of light — evokes feelings of positivity and encourages a connection with one’s inner self. A timepiece of unparalleled elegance, the new Openworked Tourbillon Purple Hour is a lifelong companion that invites you to experience time with joy.
The Openworked Tourbillon Purple Hour is housed in the Piccadilly case, one of the brand’s recognisable signatures. It is crafted from grade 5 titanium, an alloy containing small amounts of aluminium and vanadium, which has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than grade 2 titanium and is therefore more resistant to scratching. This metal is well known for its corrosion resistance, which is almost equal to that of platinum. It is robust, extremely light, and therefore pleasant to wear. A winning combination of attributes that has captivated the discerning taste of numerous watch connoisseurs.
The case is available in 38 mm and 42 mm diameters. It is distinguished by a flat, horizontally brushed middle case that is recessed in relation to the polished domed bezel, a transparent case back, a flared and fluted crown for a practical grip, and geometric lugs that allow the strap to be quickly and easily detached and replaced. All these features blend harmoniously, imbuing the design with a refined, contemporary appearance.
The purple calf leather strap with embossed denim motif, secured by a titanium folding clasp, completes the modern and eye-catching look of this creation.
Beneath the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the performance of the exquisite movement which drives the Openworked Tourbillon Purple Hour is in action.
The timepiece’s captivating dial, comprising a two-layer plate with a satin finish and a positive purple PVD coating, has been meticulously shaped to accommodate the primary mechanical components that transform this creation into a “living” entity.
The bright, shiny dial has a glossy effect on the bevelled and angled edges and a microbeaded finish on the carved pockets. As the light plays on it, it displays an array of colours, creating pleasant variations in this vivid and enigmatic shade, accentuating the exceptional craftsmanship that characterises this extraordinary piece.
At 1:30, Speake Marin’s distinctive position for displaying the small seconds, is the flying tourbillon embellished with a rhodium-plated and mirror-polished bridge in the iconic shape of the brand’s symbol, the topping tool.
The tourbillon, a fascinating and almost mysterious complication much appreciated by true connoisseurs of fine mechanical watchmaking, is undoubtedly the undisputed star of the Openworked Tourbillon Purple Hour.
Patented in 1801 by the French watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet, this device consists of a rotating cage in which the regulating organ — the heart of the mechanism — is placed. This complex component performs a complete rotation in one minute, neutralising the negative effects of gravity on the movement and thus improving timekeeping precision.
Speake Marin opts for the flying tourbillon instead of the traditional tourbillon. The flying tourbillon is so called because it is fixed at only one point and the construction of the entire device requires very precise work to ensure the perfect balance.
A symbol of horological excellence, the tourbillon mechanism is extremely difficult to engineer and assemble, a skill that only a few highly skilled and experienced watchmakers can master. The appealing purple hue further emphasises the original rhodium-plated bridges with polished, bevelled edges evoking a futuristic architectural aesthetics. These anchor the barrel, which is engraved with the name of the collection and the micro-rotor, mirroring each other, creating a harmonious visual balance.
In addition to the hour and minute functions, which are indicated by the characteristic heart-tipped hands in homage to the brand’s English roots and are lacquered in luminescent light grey, the power reserve is positioned at 7:30. When the arrow-shaped hand points towards the bright red dot, it alerts the wearer that the 72-hour power reserve is about to run out. The combination of its technical complexity and exquisite elegance makes the Openworked Tourbillon Purple Hour a stunning example of Speake Marin’s horological vision which perfectly combine innovation with the traditional art of watchmaking.
The self-winding SMA05 calibre, developed in-house by Le Cercle Des Horlogers, the Manufacture of Speake Marin powers the Openworked Tourbillon Purple Hour. It operates at a frequency of 3Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) and provides a generous power reserve of 72 hours power from a single barrel. It is distinguished by its flying tourbillon mechanism at 1.30 o’clock: an unusual position that stands out as unique in the watchmaking panorama due to the difficulties of avoiding the time-setting module and a distinctive and recognised feature of the Maison.
As with all Speake Marin calibres, the rhodium-plated tungsten micro-rotor is integrated into the movement, thus helping to reduce its thickness and allowing the case to be of limited height. The case back is closed with eight screws and features a transparent porthole that showcases the refined elegance of the black rhodium-plated bridges with bevelled profiles and 1.5 mm Côtes de Genève stripes. These surround a central bridge with a black PVD coating, which emphasises the fascinating motion of the movement’s gears. A further highlight is a second topping tool, which is positioned on the barrel visible at the rear.
Since the collection was first launched in 2020, many interpretations have resulted in unique works of art. Masterpieces that have given and continue to give emotions to those who appreciate high-end watchmaking and love to mark their time with distinction.
The Openworked Tourbillon Purple Hour is a limited production and will be available in two case sizes: 38mm and 42 mm.
