As early as the 1970s, its founder, Henri Berney, understood that quartz movements, far from threatening the art of watchmaking, opened new creative possibilities—particularly in the world of jewelry. Berney unveils its most iconic creation of the year: the Panda. An exceptional ring-watch where Swiss watchmaking meets the art of jewelry, crafted with artisanal expertise and a timeless vision. The Panda, a masterpiece from Berney’s workshops, embodies the perfect union of watchmaking precision and jewelry artistry. Designed as a miniature tableau where every detail tells a story, this extraordinary piece showcases the maison’s expertise. The panda, a universal symbol of gentleness and strength, gracefully adorns the curves of an oval 16mm ring in 750 white gold.

The animal comes to life under the skilled hands of master craftsmen: its black fur, crafted in Grand Feu enamel, requires successive firings at nearly 800°C to achieve that deep, luminous black, while its polished onyx eyes capture light with an almost lifelike intensity. A translucent bamboo branch with delicate leaves adds an organic and poetic touch to the composition.

The case, adorned with 128 diamonds (1.069 carats, F-G VS quality), becomes a luminous setting that enhances—without overshadowing—the panda’s majestic presence. Powered by the ETA 901.001 quartz movement with a two-year battery life, this masterpiece elegantly combines Swiss precision with everyday durability, all while maintaining remarkably discreet dimensions (6mm thick).

The Panda is born from exceptional watchmaking and jewelry craftsmanship. In Berney’s workshop in L’Abbaye, every artisan’s gesture tells a story. A meticulous process transforms the noblest materials into a timeless masterpiece.

In the L’Abbaye workshop, the creation of each 2025 Panda follows a meticulous ritual blending watchmaking tradition and jewelry innovation. The panda first takes shape under the skilled hands of master artisans, sculpted in wax before being transformed into precious metal through the age-old technique of lost-wax casting. The enameling then becomes a delicate dance: each grain of Grand Feu enamel is applied with surgical precision before undergoing multiple firings at 800°C, followed by meticulous polishing to reveal its unique depth of black.

The setting of the 128 diamonds alone represents nearly a hundred hours of concentrated work, with each stone individually adjusted to create this perfect constellation. The final assembly—a true choreography of precision—sees the ETA 901.001 quartz movement fitted into a remarkably compact space of just 6mm in thickness—a technical feat that pushes the boundaries of possibility.

This demanding process, requiring three to five months of work for each piece, embodies Berney’s unwavering commitment to artisanal excellence.
