wiss watchmaker Bianchet announces the new Hybrid Gold edition of the Flying Tourbillon Grande Date and Flying Tourbillon Sport GMT. These timepieces feature the unprecedented union of 18-carat gold, high-density carbon, and titanium powder - materials that enhance the physical appeal of these meticulously crafted watches. Adhering to its commitment to premium and high-tech materials, Bianchet incorporated the preciousness of gold with the durability and lightness of carbon fibre in the design. With the signature Tourbillon, the two hand-finished pieces deliver impeccable accuracy.
The case of the new Hybrid Gold edition features a gold bezel, crown, and case back with a meticulous brushed and polished finish. The rest of the case is constructed from Bianchet’s proprietary carbon composite, the Titanium-Dust-High-Density-Carbon, made of circa 500 compressed layers of carbon fibres infused with titanium powder between every two layers. The gold crown features a carbon guard for added protection and ergonomic access. Designed for those with an eye for refinement, craftsmanship expertise, and an appreciation for high-tech materials, the Hybrid Gold Grande Date and Sport GMT command attention with the lustrous addition of 18K solid gold.
The first variant, the Flying Tourbillon Grande Date, is a tonneau-shaped watch that won the International Temporis Award for Best Startup Watch. It solidified the house’s design ethos with clean lines and a sophisticated look based on the golden ratio (1.618). Inside the case is the in-house skeletonised Flying Tourbillon movement, designed, crafted, and assembled by Bianchet in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland.
The big date complication showcases the calendar’s openwork mechanism and intricate pieces, which are hand-decorated to perfection. The titanium bridges, which follow the curved construction based on the Fibonacci spiral, are embellished with hand-beveled edges. The caliber operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a 90-hour power reserve when the barrel is fully wound. The two suspended flanges supporting SuperLumiNova blocks are placed on each side of the dial. Launched at the Geneva Watch Days in August 2023, this timepiece conveys harmony and natural balance with its symmetrically aligned horology complications.
The Flying Tourbillon Sport GMT is a testament to Bianchet’s versatility and innovation. Its highlight is its dual time GMT function that simultaneously shows two time zones. The 24-hour GMT dial features a rotating Earth dome, a nod to this timepiece’s embrace of the globetrotter. With an intuitive crown-function indicator, winding and setting the local or reference time is quick and easy.
Like its predecessor, the Sport GMT also holds a 90-hour power reserve, making it a reliable partner for adventurers taking on new territories. While a modern, sporty look defines the aesthetic of this timepiece, it is still rooted in traditional Swiss watchmaking. The movement and case parts are meticulously finished and assembled by hand, decorations are applied with a paintbrush, and pieces like the hour indicators made of luminescent material are placed by hand, highlighting Bianchet’s attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Both the Hybrid Gold models come with two straps (black and white) made with vulcanised natural rubber. These timepieces are suitable for water activities, with a water resistance of 10 ATM and shock resistance of 5000Gs.
