Introducing the new Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day Date

While the dial of this new urban timepiece is dressed in khaki and suffused with sunray brush, its 41mm stainless steel case is coated in a stealthy shade of black DLC. An interesting blend of contrasting shades.

T

he dial of the new Maurice Lacroix Pontos Day Date is dressed in khaki and suffused with sunray brush, while its 41mm stainless steel case is coated in a stealthy shade of black DLC. Ordinarily, this aesthetic combination would confer an understated character, especially when worn in a rural setting. However, this new version of the Pontos Day Date is intended for an urban landscape, hence its blend of shades and shapes really stand out from the crowd.

The black hour and minute hands, lined with Super-LumiNova®, proclaim the time while the applied trapezoidal indexes exhibit a comparatively covert character. A sandblasted inner minute track, executed in black, is positioned on a lower plane. It plays host to a series of crisp lines and plump squares, both treated with SLN, optimally designed to convey the minutes and seconds in a simple to read format.

At the top of the dial, the Maurice Lacroix ‘M’ logo looks down on the rest of the display, once again, dressed in black, understated and cool. Throughout the composition, the dial plays with different textures, finishes, hues and depths. For example, the day is shown via an arcing aperture. It’s presented in white text atop a black disc, recessed but eminently clear. This treatment is repeated in the lower part of the dial, where the date is shown via a recessed square aperture, legible and sophisticated. The central sweep seconds hand features a prominent tip which floats above the minute track, thereby augmenting readability.

The scale of this model makes it suitable for male and female wearers. Consistent with other Pontos models, the case is ergonomically optimised, delivering an incredible degree of wearer comfort. The crown sports a fluted grip, proffering ease of operation and granting extraordinar y tactility that reinforces the overall sense of quality.

An exhibition caseback indulges the mechanically curious wearer with superb views of the automatic ML143 calibre. Upholding Maurice Lacroix’s reputation for delivering high-perceived value, the movement is adorned with vertical Côtes de Genève, circular-graining and colimaçon, while the rotor is embellished with sun brushing.

The watch is supplied on a dark green M-branded nylon strap with tone-on-tone stitching, reinforcing the model’s contemporary chic look. Owners can modify the appearance of the watch cour tesy of the Easy Strap Exchange system, swapping the strap for an alter native, without the need for tools.

Limited to just 1000 pieces, the Pontos Day Date is destined to be a rare sight even in the largest of cities. However, with its various indications and sophisticated looks, this model will always stand out from the crowd. Once again, Maurice Lacroix has bridged the notion of style and practicality, releasing yet another paragon of urban chic.
