Tutima Glashütte: a cockpit classic redefined

Tutima’s Flieger collection was the first German chronograph to feature a flyback function as seen in their Grand Flieger in 1941. This new iteration is modernized by the slate grey dial and Horween leather strap, along with Tutima’s modern automatic Calibre 330. To ensure optimal legibility, the new Flieger watch also features a contrasting bright orange second-hand. The Flieger Slate Grey is also available on a stainless-steel bracelet.

T

utima’s latest model in the Flieger series brings cool contrasts to the wrist with a dark gradated dial in elegant slate grey. The dégradé effect continues harmoniously into the grey leather strap with contrasting black outer edges. The wristband is made by the traditional Horween tannery, which has been appreciated for five generations for its especially high-quality and robust leather goods.

With the new Flieger Slate Grey, Tutima adds a new chapter to the ongoing saga of its legendary pilot’s watches from the 1940s. A luminescent coating of Super-LumiNova on the numerals and the skeletonised hands, pale baton-shaped indices and the characteristic pilot’s watch symbol at the “12 o’clock” position assure optimal legibility in all lighting conditions. The second-hand is particularly eye-catching: it contrasts boldly against its monochrome background and adds a bright orange accent.

Inside this three-handed wristwatch, Tutima Calibre 330 automatically winds itself thanks to a rotor em-bellished with an 18 karat gold seal. The movement resists pressure to ten atmospheres and can be ad-mired by peering through the transparent pane of sapphire crystal in the screwed back of the polished 41-mm-diameter stainless steel case. The crystal above the dial is antireflectively treated and the crown is threaded. The date display collaborates with centrally axial hands for the hours, minutes and seconds to accentuate this model’s strong appearance.

Alongside the Grand Flieger Classic series and the Airport series, this newcomer complements the Flieger family with a sporty timepiece that goes equally well with a business suit or a leisure outfit – and not only makes pilots’ hearts beat faster.
