Designer and manufacturer Robert Corio adeptly bridges the gap between two different time periods. Twenty-nine years as a goldsmith and a family history in that field since 1924 have given him an understanding and appreciation of the impeccable workmanship of the past. Yet, when it comes to his state-of-the-art production facility, he is at the forefront of modern technology in the making of the finest quality jewelry.
Of particular pride for the designer is his highly specialized software system, which allows a design to be created on a computer screen in the finest detail. Each design can be viewed in three dimensions, spun around, flipped over or shown in four different views side-by-side, resulting in a precise piece that can be seen and approved by the customer. After approval, the data is sent to another machine, where the design is precisely executed in wax - all without the touch of a human hand. The resulting wax model can be tried on and the stones dropped into place.
Once the customer has approved the piece, it is cast in precious metal, polished, the stones set and finished. A precision laser-engraving system is another innovation. It can be used for quality marking, personalization of an item or creating a design. It includes thousands of fonts, characters and effects, all of which can be engraved with microscopic precision at warp speed. Entirely controlled by computer, this system can be used to burn letters, pictures or designs into gold or platinum with the finest detail. “It opens up a world of opportunities never before possible using traditional goldsmithing techniques,” says Corio. A delicate picture can be engraved into precious metal.
Robert Corio Designs uses three laser-welding units in the production, repair and finishing of the jewelry. These allow for the strictest attention to detail throughout the entire process. For example, all stone setting is done under microscopes, resulting in a perfect product exactly envisioned by the client. Recognizing the need for high-quality designer jewelry in 18K gold and platinum, Robert Corio offers top-quality jewelry with cutting-edge designs. An intense pulse of light can be used to fuse and weld metals with almost no heat transfer to the piece. Casting porosity can be removed and repair work can be done close to heat-sensitive stones with no risk.
The firm's schedule includes extensive international travel and participation at major trade shows, supported by a large factory and a full staff to guarantee timely production and shipping.
