www.worldwatchweb.com- This event, the first ever illumination of the column, was made possible by Hublot who wanted an elegant way of celebrating its integration into the Comité Vendôme.
Over the years, Place Vendôme has come to be chosen as the place to house the most prestigious and elegant items in all Paris, sparkling with the thousand lights of the Haute Joaillerie and Haute Horlogerie boutiques for which the area is the uncontested stronghold.
On 3rd December 2010, the Comité Vendôme and Hublot will light up the Vendôme Column to mark the monument’s bicentenary (it was erected by Napoleon I in 1810 to commemorate his Grande Armée).
At 17.30, Jean-Claude Biver, Hublot’s CEO, will press the button: this is a major first as the Vendôme Column – unlike other monuments such as the Eiffel Tower - has never before been illuminated.
The lighting, a decoration made of pure light planned to be in effect until mid-January, will use innovative LED technology, allowing beams in different white tones to be projected to naturally restore the bronze colour of the column. This device, which will switch on every day as night falls, is very energy efficient (1.8KW).
