For the first time in the history of Human Rights Watch, an independent organization dedicated to the protection and defence of human rights all over the world, a watch has been officially created to pay tribute to the Declaration of Human Rights.
The watch has been developed by Swiss watch manufacture Hublot, with a dial designed by Roger Pfund, artist, designer and world-renowned Swiss expert in banknotes and documents such as passports.
7 unique watches have been created, and the pieces will be auctioned in aid of Human Rights Watch during 7 dinners, to be held in:
- New York, 3rd November (American Museum of History)
- Los Angeles, 15th November (The Beverly Hilton)
- Geneva, 16th November (Salle Pitoeff)
- Paris, 17th November (Pavillon d’Armenonville)
- San Francisco, 18th November (Yoshi’s San Francisco)
- Beirut, 1st December (The Linda Sursock Residence)
- Saint Moritz (January 2011)
What makes this watch – a Hublot Classic Fusion model 45 mm in diameter – so special is the design and highly complex realization of a ceramic dial containing all 30 articles of the Declaration of human Rights laser engraved in micro-letters. The 30 articles are divided into 60 radiating lines marking each minute on the dial. The name of one of the 8 cities chosen by Human Rights Watch to host the annual dinners is featured at three o’clock, in line with the concept: one watch, one city.
