Xetum timepieces are priced from US$995-1395 and available for purchase directly from the company at www.xetum.com
or at the company design studio and showroom near San Francisco’s Union Square. Xetum’s initial collection consists of two product families, the Tyndall and the Stinson, each named for a California natural landmark. Xetum’s flagship Tyndall model (named for Mt. Tyndall, in California’s Sierra Nevada mountain range and photographed here) uses an instrument-style design, features a small second subdial and 24H indicators, and is built around an elaboree-grade ETA 2895-2 movement.
Xetum’s Stinson timepiece (named for Stinson Beach, in Northern California’s Marin County) features a more minimal dial design with a center second hand, and is built around the time-tested ETA 2824-2 movement. Each modern Xetum timepiece is made in Switzerland’s Jura Valley and features high-caliber components such as 316L stainless steel cases and scratch-resistant sapphire front crystal.
For company founder and longtime California resident Jeffrey Kuo, the brand launch is the culmination of a personal decade-long search for the precise mix of design, components, materials and pricing in a mechanical timepiece. Kuo says, “I’ve been looking for the right mix of these features for years, but there has always been something missing, whether it was the watch being oversized or too expensive, or just not looking right. In recent years, many watches have become big, gaudy and flamboyant, and Xetum is trying to offer a nuanced alternative to these trends.”
