Maurice Lacroix timepieces today incorporate a vibrant and contemporary design with modern technology and the mastery of mechanical movements. In so doing the brand has created its own niche in the world of measuring time.
Masterpiece Le Chronographe Squelette
In its Masterpiece Collection, using its own in-house mechanical chronograph movement, the ML 106-7 Calibre, there is the Le Chronographe Squelette, a timepiece that not only lets you admire the intricate workings of the skeletal structure of a chronograph, but also authenticates the brand’s Manufacture nomenclature. The light brushes past the dusky seconds hand, before bouncing off the sharp, luminous spurs of the hours and minutes hands. Having pierced through the slate-gray metallic sapphire dial, with its applied time indicators, it comes to rest on the chronograph counters, intrigued by the presence of a 60-minute counter. It then follows the movement of the counter’s hands which, shaped like skeletal discs, resemble the gears of the movement.
The 45 mm stainless steel case is a combination of polished sunray, circular- and vertical-brushed surfaces, with a screwed steel bezel and domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. There is a screw-down crown, screwed case-back with a large sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and the watch is water-resistant to 100 metres.
The functions are hours and minutes, indicated by central hands, small seconds at 9 o’clock, chronograph seconds via a central hand and a 60-minute chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. The watch comes with a black hand-stitched porous crocodile-skin strap with large scales and black calfskin lining.
GMT in pink and brown
Winner of the Red Dot Design Award in 2006, the Pontos DÉcentrique GMT now appears in an eye-catching version in pink gold.
Immediately identifiable by its architectural lines and innovative off-centre functions, the hours, minutes and seconds are freed from the center of the dial and placed in a round off-set segment at 10 o'clock. The day and night display for a second time zone is placed on a disc at 5 o'clock showing sun and moon symbols. The date display is enhanced by means of a patented mechanism, developed by Maurice Lacroix, which lifts up the date disc and creates a three-dimensional effect.
The contrasting finishes within the dial create a depth that appears to multiply the shades of brown that surround it and are also found in the elegant, overstitched alligator-skin strap. The day/night disc is covered by a sapphire crystal which reveals the chocolate disc and the stars. To complement the brown of the dial, the markers and hands are plated in pink gold. The 43 mm case and the buckle are in 18 carat pink gold.
The Pontos DÉcentrique GMT is in 18 carat pink gold and houses an automatic ML121 mechanical movement developed by Maurice Lacroix. There is an off-centre hours, minutes and seconds display; off-centre day and night display for a second time zone at 5 o'clock, date display at 6 o'clock, and the watch has a 38-hour power reserve. The watch has a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, screwed caseback with sapphire crystal revealing the hand-decorated CÔtes de GenÈve motif on the movement and an integrated second time zone corrector at 2 o'clock. Water-resistant to 50 metres, the watch is completed with a brown alligator skin strap with a calfskin lining.
