This groundbreaking auction – a combination of a traditional auction room auction and an online Internet auction – consisted of four simultaneous sessions in adjacent auction rooms.
Over 200 people attended the four simultaneous sessions and several participants followed all four multi-sessions via their laptops. Comments around the auction rooms ranged from, “This is the future for auctioneering” to “This is the most comprehensive and elegant display of timepieces of all the exhibitions”. This euphoria though did not translate into bids as many present were there more to see how the new system would work than to bid. Added to this, technical problems meant that the system didn't function as intended.
