Ak(h)or: transforming time into balance and motion

The watch brand is exploring a new visual language to express its philosophy of time and unveils an aspirational film directed by Geneva-based photographer and filmmaker Nicolas Haeni, bringing together watchmaking, body movement and the search for balance.

T

he film presents the Le Temps en Équilibre collection, distinguished by its signature feature: a levitating dial seemingly suspended in space. This technical and aesthetic signature reflects the brand’s vision of time as a dynamic equilibrium between mechanics, gravity and perception.

Founded by Anissa Bader, AK(h)or was born from a simple conviction: a watch does not merely measure time — it expresses a personal relationship with it. The name itself draws inspiration from the word “Akh”, which in ancient Egypt refers to the notion of elevation and the soul. This reference reflects the brand’s ambition to develop a form of watchmaking where technical precision meets a broader reflection on time.

To translate this vision on screen, Nicolas Haeni built the film around a central idea: the suspension of time. A graduate of ECAL (University of Art and Design Lausanne), Haeni’s work often explores the relationship between objects, space and movement. For AK(h)or, he approached the watch through the language of the body and gravity.

The film features dancers evolving in apparent weightlessness, performing rotations, suspensions and delicate balances. Their gestures echo the mechanical choreography of the watch itself, creating a visual dialogue between human movement and horological engineering. The structures supporting the dancers remain invisible at first, reinforcing the illusion of levitation — a visual metaphor for the floating dial of the watch.

The project also reflects the dual background of founder Anissa Bader. With a background in science, she has long been interested in systems of balance, complex mechanisms and technical precision. At the same time, her curiosity extends to philosophy, history and ancient civilisations. This intersection between science and reflection shapes the identity of AK(h)or: a form of independent watchmaking where engineering and meaning evolve together.
